A facelift, also called rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that repositions facial tissues and removes or redrapes excess skin to address sagging in the cheeks, jawline and lower face. A neck lift is a separate but commonly combined procedure for loose skin and underlying tissues in the neck.

What is a Facelift?

A facelift is intended to address sagging and tissue descent in the lower face, cheeks and jawline. Suitability depends on anatomy, health, goals and the surgeon’s assessment. Non-surgical treatments and facelift surgery do not serve the same purpose, and the appropriate option must be determined individually.

SMAS Facelift

A SMAS facelift repositions the superficial musculoaponeurotic system beneath the skin. The exact extent of surgery and incision pattern depend on the patient’s anatomy and the surgeon’s plan.

Deep Plane Facelift

A Deep Plane facelift releases and repositions deeper facial tissues as a connected layer. It may be considered when the surgeon determines that deeper repositioning is appropriate. It is not automatically the best technique for every patient.

Facelift with Neck Lift

A neck lift can be added when the neck also requires surgical correction. A facelift and a neck lift are separate procedures, even when they are performed during the same operation. They must therefore be quoted separately unless a package expressly includes both.

The final technique, surgical scope, hospital stay and recovery plan are confirmed only after assessment by the treating surgeon.

In-person consultation: The final surgical plan is confirmed with the surgeon in Thailand before treatment.
Surgery and hospital care: The hospital is responsible for the procedure, medical care and discharge plan.
Recovery and follow-up: Bangkok Health Service coordinates the agreed hotel, transfers and appointments. Medical decisions and clearance to travel remain with the treating team.

An example of coordinated recovery

One international patient travelled with a companion for a Deep Plane facelift combined with lower-eyelid surgery. We coordinated airport transfer, accommodation close to the hospital, the hospital appointments and a later stay at a riverside wellness retreat. When the patient was concerned about swelling, an additional hospital review was arranged. Follow-up photographs were subsequently shared with the medical team. Is facelift surgery painful?

Discomfort, swelling and bruising are expected after surgery, but their intensity and duration vary. The hospital team provides an individual pain-management and aftercare plan. Contact the treating team if symptoms are unexpected or worsening.

Will I look unnatural after a facelift?
