Thonburi Canal

The Thonburi Canal, or Khlong, is a picturesque waterway that weaves through the historic Thonburi district of Bangkok. Once the capital of Thailand, Thonburi is famous for its traditional riverside homes, vibrant floating markets, and lush greenery. Sailing along the canal offers a unique glimpse into Bangkok’s past, where life revolves around the water. Wooden houses on stilts, local vendors selling goods from boats, and small temples dot the banks, giving visitors an authentic look at the quieter, more traditional side of the bustling city. It’s a serene and scenic escape from modern urban life.

Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha)

Wat Pho, also known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, is one of Bangkok’s most iconic and historically significant temples. Located near the Grand Palace, it is famous for housing the enormous Reclining Buddha statue, which is 46 meters long and 15 meters high, covered in gold leaf. The statue represents the Buddha entering nirvana, and its feet are intricately decorated with mother-of-pearl inlays depicting auspicious symbols.

Wat Traimit (Temple of the Golden Buddha)

Wat Traimit, located in the heart of Bangkok’s bustling Chinatown, is home to one of Thailand’s most awe-inspiring treasures: the world’s largest solid gold Buddha statue. Known as the Golden Buddha, this stunning figure stands at 3 meters tall and weighs over 5.5 tons of pure gold, making it not only a spiritual symbol but also a historical marvel. The statue is believed to have been crafted during the Sukhothai period (13th-14th century) and was hidden under a plaster coating to protect it from invaders. Its true nature was only revealed by chance in the 1950s when the statue was accidentally dropped during a relocation, cracking the plaster and unveiling the gold beneath.
